Construction is underway for this adaptive reuse project, aiming for an Autumn 2024 launch! The building is currently used by the small team behind the global fundraising event The Distinguished Gentlemans Ride and Movember, raising money for mens health initiatives. To add a public interface to the building, the client is including a small donut take away shop called “Donut Garage” to continue raising funds for the charity year round.
I have been invited to join a great line up of practitioners and academics to lead a studio in the Masters of Architecture program at University of Technology Sydney School of Architecture program. The overall goal of successful adaptive reuse strategies is to be as strategic and resourceful as possible, so when the new design interventions are complete, it’s hard to pinpoint what was old and what is new, they seamlessly work together
Partnering with Scentre Group, Second Edition, and Mud Ceramics, we have just completed the first stage of concept designs for Project Brief 7 Circular Economy for A New Normal - Sydney , led by local urbanist and former City of Sydney Councillor, Jess Miller.
This semester, I’ve had the opportunity to reenter the tutoring community under the stewardship of architect and course coordinator Micheal Muir at The University of Sydney, in a technologies course that educates undergrads architects in considering site on a global and local scale before responding with appropriate design and construction techniques.
These photos taken by the incredible talent Kate Disher-Quill as Rising Sun Workshop was nearing completion of the build and in the early days of the business in trade. Before the timber started to sag, it’s great to remember the many hands and hours that went into creating this place.
Very fun times ahead! Returning to reignite a practice after a forced pause in March 2020, The Shed is working with some wonderful clients to discover solutions to some challenging sites and briefs. Here are some of the sheds currently underway.
Working with graphic designer Loretta Attwater, The Shed has undergone a fun overhaul of branding to reflect the current direction of the practice to focus on building “a collective” of experts that engage in the iterative process of design and discovery. Still professional yet not rigid.
The main aim of Generation Exchange is to connect young architects (attendees) with established and experienced architects (guest panellists). Generation Exchange is meant to be an informal event that breaks down the barriers between these two generations of architects.
Speaking on behalf of Healthabitat at the March 2020 OZ.E.TECTRE conference at Deerubbin in early 2020 (before COVID-19 was declared a pandemic in Australia and the rest of the world shut down). It was a great weekend.
Tickets still available for this immersive weekend on the hawkesbury learning from architects from around the world as brought to you by the AFA. I’ll be there speaking on behalf of Healthabitat. Click on the link to learn more about the other speakers and book your spot.

The Shed is taking a little break to welcome the newest addition to our family, Mackenzie Elias Sheather, born November 2019 and blessed with a loving big sister, Aurora Jones, who is adjusting well. We’ll be back to practice following the OZETECTURE Conference at Deerubin in March, where I’ve the great privilege to speak on behalf of Healthabitat on our responsibility as architects.
A short film by the passionate team at Skyline Creative pulled together this short film of yours truly, outlining the practice philosophy, shot in a special project completed for the Midalia family.
Recently we worked with Skyline Creative, a dynamic team of creatives with extensive experience working for high-end real estate clients and a passion for architecture. Clayton Idato, founder and creative director (super nice guy and friend), reached out to document some of our completed projects, taking on TSC as their first architectural client.
Participating in the OZETECTURE 2019 Glenn Murcutt Masterclass was a totally immersive, restorative, intensive experience that really pulled us out of our comfort zones. Forced out of the daily pressures of decision making and into the unknown (and scary) process of discovery where the only reassurance was from an innate trust in the guidance that come from within the practices of Glenn Murcutt, Peter Stutchbury, Brit Andreson and Richard Leplastrier.
Six years since the first booklet, and three years since his passing, I can add the following applied lessons to the practice of architecture as learned at The Shed (PP) School.
A booklet madea s gift to Paul Pholeros “10 things I Learned at The Shed (PP) School”, borrowing the format of Matthew Fredrick’s book “101 things I learned at Architecture School”. AT the time I’d worked for the practice and Healthabitat for 5 years. It took months to narrow it down into clear, concise lessons that were philosophically guided whilst not taking itself too seriously. These are the first 10 lessons…
