Lead by Architect Heleana Genaus, The SHed is a SMALL PRACTICE of multidisciplinary professionals providing a service dedicated to resourceful approaches to HOMES AND place making. Adaptive re-use is the term, finding new and relevant ways to activate place and community is the aim.

Construction is underway for this adaptive reuse project, aiming for an Autumn 2024 launch! The building is currently used by the small team behind the global fundraising event The Distinguished Gentlemans Ride and Movember, raising money for mens health initiatives. To add a public interface to the building, the client is including a small donut take away shop called “Donut Garage” to continue raising funds for the charity year round.
I have been invited to join a great line up of practitioners and academics to lead a studio in the Masters of Architecture program at University of Technology Sydney School of Architecture program. The overall goal of successful adaptive reuse strategies is to be as strategic and resourceful as possible, so when the new design interventions are complete, it’s hard to pinpoint what was old and what is new, they seamlessly work together
Partnering with Scentre Group, Second Edition, and Mud Ceramics, we have just completed the first stage of concept designs for Project Brief 7 Circular Economy for A New Normal - Sydney , led by local urbanist and former City of Sydney Councillor, Jess Miller.
This semester, I’ve had the opportunity to reenter the tutoring community under the stewardship of architect and course coordinator Micheal Muir at The University of Sydney, in a technologies course that educates undergrads architects in considering site on a global and local scale before responding with appropriate design and construction techniques.
